old but gold

One of the things I´ve learnt since I´ve started blogging is how to recycle your clothes. Not everybody of us has the possibility to buy whole new outfits for every single day, so sometimes you have to be a bit creative and do the best out of the stuff that you already have sitting in your closet. And I think that´s what makes the difference between a person that has style and somebody who follows fashion. Trends pass; style is eternal.

Everything I´m wearing in today´s look has been part of my wardrobe for a considerable amount of time, except for the tote bag and the beret. I´ve rambled on about this whole beret thing already in my previous post and I could continue for hours, but let´s focus instead on the fact how simple a little £12 beret and a 4€ tote bag can transform an old outfit that you´re bored of wearing into something new and exciting. I´ve bought the tote bag on the release party of the Luxembourgish band Austinn´s first album, which, by the way, is also available on Spotify. So if you still haven´t checked them out - what are you doing with your life? Give it a go, you´ll probably end up being just as obsessed with them as I am!

le beret

I usually consider myself to be everything but a hat person. Classical flap hats, sporty baseball hats, cosy knitted hat - I love how all of these styles look on other people, but I´ve never been the one pulling them off. The first (and only) time I was really intrigued by a certain style of hats was when I saw the French-inspired beret surfacing again a few months ago. Since then it has literally taken over the blogger scene as well as the streets. After reading Robyn Poppy´s A/W Layering post where she wears a beige example of the trend, I decided to finally go for it and purchase a beige and a red one from Topshop (click here).

For this look, I paired it with a simple, dark blue striped turtleneck by Comma, a pair of light washed, high-waisted mom jeans by Topshop and my favourite, black everyday booties by New Look. I tried to keep the whole outfit very simple since the red beret is already quite a big statement on its own.

Conclusion? I´m obsessed, so hopefully, the beret is one to stick around for some time. And who knows? Maybe this is my personal beginning of a newly discovered love for hats?

Liebster Award : Discover New Blogs

Not too long ago, I was nominated by lovely Margaret from Cady Quotidienne for the Liebster Award. I really appreciate it, and can only recommend you check out her blog as well as her Liebster Award post. I find Margaret to be a very inspiring and positive person and blogger, which makes me feel even more grateful to get this nomination from her and to follow her journey over on her blog.

I could ramble on for hours, but since I don´t want you to fall asleep while reading, let´s get into the questions without further ado!

Favorite part of blogging?

I genuinely love to be able to create my own content without having to obey restrictions or commands from somebody else. When I talk about the process of creating content, I´m talking about everything from brainstorming ideas over taking photographs up to bringing everything together in form of a post. Nevertheless, as a good Fashion Journalism student, I probably have to say that writing is my favourite part of the whole process.

What would your superpower be if you could choose?

Even though I´d love to be able to fly, I´ll probably have to go with being invisible - very basic, I know. But let´s be real, how amazing would it be to actually be able to walk around, have a look at everything and everybody without being noticed? I imagine it to be not only a very practical superpower but also a really fun one.

Preferred vacation type / destination?

Summer, beach and sunshine! I´m all for the relaxing beach holidays near the sea, even though I also love to learn about people and culture and to explore the local area. I´m currently writing a post about my dream destinations, so stay tuned for that. If I had to go with one of them for this purpose, I´d definitely choose the Maldives since they look like heaven on earth with their long, white beaches and crystal-clear blue seas.

The biggest learning experience as a blogger/businesswoman?

Be passionate and patient. Blogging as well as building a community takes time. People sense if you like what you do, and if you´re passionate about what you´re doing, they will eventually follow your journey and be interested in what you´re doing.

Favorite animal and why?

This is a random one: if we disregard the usual ones such as dogs, cats and horses, I´d say dolphins, penguins and hippos. There´s no specific reason for that - I just find them to be really interesting and cool animals.

Any hidden talents? If we had a talent show, what would you do?

I don´t think that I have any hidden talents. I´d probably dance if it came to a talent show since that´s basically everything that I´ve done for those last 15 years.

Dream project or brand to work with?

As many of you probably know by now, I´m studying Fashion Journalism in London. After my studies, I´d love to be able to stay here and maybe do some freelance work for different magazines and newspapers. I guess that every Fashion Journalist dreams of writing for the big names like Vogue or Harper´s Bazaar at one point of their career, but I would love to write for Tatler, Cosmopolitan and Glamour, especially since those, are the magazines that have accompanied me through all those years and it would be great to be able to experience them from another point of view for once.

One item in your closet that you can´t live without?

Okay, confession time: I get overly attached to my clothes and bags, which, I admit, isn´t a very healthy way of being, but I can´t really help it. So this question is really a tough one for me because I love all of my stuff, but if I would have to pick one favourite right now, I´d probably say my pink, fluffy jumper that I got a month or so ago. Not only is it a socially acceptable form of my pj´s, but it reminds me of cotton candy which is always a good thing, I guess?

Celebrity or girl crush?

I always change about this but if I would have to pick my favorites right now, I´d say Gigi Hadid, simply because she´s so beautiful and is the personification of  #girlboss (congrats for "Woman of the Year", Gigi), and Dytto, who´s a nineteen-year-old, incredibly talented popping artist and dancer. If you don´t know her already, what are you doing with your life? Drop everything you´re doing right now and check her YouTube and her Instagram out!

What do you hope readers take away from your blog?

Honestly, if one single person learns something, gets inspired or even just smiles a little because of this blog, I am more than happy. I´m in no way a pro in what I´m doing here, but you know, I try, as does every other blog in this world as well. What I love most about the blogging community is that it permits you to share what you know and even if what you´re doing seems to be the most obvious thing for you, there is a possibility that somebody out there has no idea and you could help them by simply publishing a short few sentences, and that´s what I hope that I can do.

Matilda

For my birthday, which was on 29th October, I went to the film premiere of the Russian film Matilda on Sunday evening to spend some mom-daughter time. In a first instance, I wasn´t too sure whether to write about it or not, since it was in Russian, but I think that the English subtitles would even allow a person that doesn´t speak Russian at all to follow pretty well. So, let´s talk about Matilda!

The film

As I mentioned previously already, the film was produced in Russia and is considered to be a romantic drama movie, which is already announced by the subtitle "love changes everything". The Russian film producer Alexei Jefimowitsch Utschitel, short Aleksey Uchitel, is responsible for the production that is based on the script of Aleksandr Terekhov and Michael Katims.
The plot is loosely based on the life of Russia´s last tsar Nicolas II and his supposed romantic relationship with the prima ballerina Matilda. Since there is no evidence that the tsar actually was involved in such a relationship, the film was not only criticised but also sarcastically called a "fairy tale", especially by Russian and Russian-speaking people.

Personal Opinion

I had honestly no high expectations whatsoever when I first entered the cinema, which is probably one of the main reasons why I was surprisingly very pleased with it. Even though the relationship is very romanticised and the film is full of excessive and probably a little unrealistic drama scenes, I really enjoyed the approximately 2-hours-long movie.
The Polish actress Michalina Olszanska was more than perfect for her role of the seductive, ambitious and deeply committed prima ballerina Matilda. Also, I was really impressed with the huge effect of her stare, which was basically everything she played with during the whole film, as she didn´t do much more with the rest of her face.
The only thing I have to criticise is the end, but since I don´t want to spoiler too much, I´ll just say: they could´ve elaborated the whole finale a little more in order for the audience to follow the plot easier.

Conclusion

Apart from my little critic of the finale, I would definitely recommend you to give the film a go if you´re interested in a little historical-inspired film filled with romantic drama, majestic, elegant clothes and beautiful settings that make you want to visit Russia as quickly as possible. Also, let´s keep an eye on Olszanska - I can´t wait to see more of her!

teddybear feat. uni

Let´s start this off with a little fun fact about me: as you probably know by now, I live in London which is quite well-known to be plagued by really shitty weather pretty much all the time. And even though, I am well aware of the weather conditions here and I do buy jackets and coats on a regular basis (I admit that I might have a problem), I don´t own a single jacket with a hood. Badass, I know.

Well, anyway, I recently bought a new bomber jacket (oh wonder, who would´ve guessed) from a brand called Soot & Ty that has its flag store at Camden Market, London, but is available online as well. The brain behind the label that is well-known for its colourful prints on classical designs, such as bomber and biker jackets, long-sleeved shirts and various accessories, is called Zak Million and, as of recently I´ve got the chance to talk to him a little bit about his brand and everything that goes with it. But we´ll talk about that in a later post, so stay tuned for that!

Okay so now, let´s come back to my outfit aka. the reason for this post. I really love the bomber jacket, mainly because it goes with everything in my wardrobe, fits perfectly and makes me feel like the cool uni student I´m not. Nevertheless, as the colder days approach, I find it quite tricky to pull it off without freezing to death. So here´s where the commonly known layering technique gets into the game! Very innovative, I know.

Basically, I went for a fluffy, cream jumper that gives me all those teddybear feels, and layered a normal, blue-washed denim jacket as well as the beige college jacket on top. For the rest of my outfit, I´ve chosen a strongly distressed, black jeans, a pair of slightly heeled, black booties and a black backpack. Then, to give the outfit a little bit more of that I-really-tried-can-you-tell-look, I accessorised with a bracelet that my friends kindly got me for my birthday (thanks again, guys!) and that I wear basically on a daily basis, as well as a pair of light-beige waterfall earrings. Et voilĂ ! Nothing high-fashion, but definitely a comfortable look on a day-to-day basis.
